Jay
S. Winuk, principal of Winuk Communications, has 20 years of
communications experience in the agency, corporate and not-for-profit
sectors. He has served many
of the nation’s leading corporations, developing and executing public
relations campaigns that have attracted national and worldwide attention.
Mr. Winuk’s experience includes product, service and
business-to-business brand marketing; crisis/issues management; media relations;
speech writing; event planning; cause-related marketing and more. His
firm provides comprehensive communications services to clients in many
industries, including technology, healthcare, entertainment, real estate,
finance/investment, consumer products and more.
Before
founding Winuk Communications in 1994, Mr. Winuk was director of public
relations for Radio City Music Hall Productions, one of the world’s
leading live entertainment production companies.
There he served as company spokesperson and managed all corporate
communications for Radio City and its role in live events staged at the
Music Hall and throughout the U.S. These
included the 1993 Super Bowl Halftime Show starring Michael Jackson; Radio
City’s famed annual holiday shows starring the Rockettes; all musical
and comedy concerts; national theatrical touring shows; the 1994 Grammy
Awards; and the “Barney Live at Radio City” family attraction.
He also staged several public and media events promoting the
company’s attractions, including the 10-day, city-wide “Country Takes
Manhattan” music festival and the Music Hall’s “Sidewalk of the
Stars” exhibit.
Prior
to joining Radio City, Mr. Winuk held executive positions at two of the
world’s leading public relations agencies.
As vice president at Golin/Harris Communications in New York, he
directed a diverse group of accounts in industries such as consumer
banking; travel, tourism and economic development; corporate identity;
environmental management; food and more.
For client Citibank, Mr. Winuk led PR efforts for the company’s
many bankcard products, including the Citidining Card with spokesperson
Tommy Lasorda, and was part of a task force that managed Citibank’s
major sponsorship of the nationwide “Hands Across America” fundraising
event. As director of G/H
Travel (NY), Mr. Winuk managed accounts that included destinations such as
Rotterdam, Northern Ireland and West Berlin, including the promotion of
that city’s 750th anniversary celebration. Other clients included the
Chrysler Corporation, Chemical Bank, Lippincott & Margulies, Medieval
Times, The Catfish Institute, Sony, Hesco, Garuda Indonesia Airlines,
Lederle Labs, McDonald’s and Maker’s Mark Distillery.
As
an account executive at Burson-Marsteller, Mr. Winuk’s clients included
The Coca-Cola Company, Western Union and General Foods, for which he
managed national publicity and spokesperson appearances promoting the
company’s nationwide, product-oriented nutrition awareness campaigns. For Coca-Cola, Mr. Winuk helped manage corporate and product
issues and
was instrumental in the development of The Coca-Cola Foundation. Other
client assignments included public affairs work on environmental safety
issues for Safe Buildings Alliance, a Washington, DC-based special
interest group.
Prior
to joining Burson-Marsteller, Mr. Winuk served for two years as director
of public relations for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston, Inc., one of
New England’s leading youth organizations.
He holds a master of science degree in Public Relations/Public
Affairs from Boston University and a bachelor of arts degree in
Communications from the State University of New York at Oneonta.
For two years he hosted a radio program on WONY-FM in Oneonta, NY.
